New Scotland Spirits Tasting Room Drinks Menu
Whiskey
New Scot
Rye Whiskey, Apple Cider. Garnish: Spiced Sugar Rim & Cinnamon Stick. It’s the Town of New Scotland’s native cocktail! Handcrafted with our Helderberg Rye Whiskey and cider from Indian Ladder Farms, this concoction highlights the very best of our hometown’s adult beverages. Thanks to the muddle of fresh apples, that splash of spice, and a cinnamon stick for good measure, you can indulge in the taste of a “New Scottish” autumn all year round.
The Queen’s Olde Fashioned
Wheat Whiskey, Bitters, Maraschino Cherries. Garnish: Orange Twist & Cherry. In 1790, Albany’s Common Council voted to eradicate all traces of England’s former colonial control. Queen Street was thus renamed Elk Street, thereby eliminating any allusion to royalty until our very own “Queen Rosamaria” stepped onto the scene. Now, by Her Majesty’s decree, this take on that most classic of cocktails forsakes both bourbon and rye in favor of our Helderberg Winter Wheat Whiskey. Yet the bitters, cherries, and sultry orange peel will still pique your sense of nostalgia.
Corning Tower
Corn Whiskey, Pineapple Juice, Tropical Ginger Beer, Blue Curacao, Triple Sec. Garnish: Fresh Raspberries & Lemon Wedge. Erastus Corning 2nd, a World War II veteran and Albany’s 72nd mayor from 1942 until his death in 1983, was a product of both a prominent New York political dynasty and the notorious O’Connell Democratic Party machine. The 44-story tower that bears his name atop the Empire State Plaza complex he conceived with Governor Nelson Rockefeller is fitting tribute to his status as America’s longest serving mayor. Here in the Tasting Room, however, the Corning Tower means only one thing: a signature Upstate cocktail, made with our very own 68W American Corn Whiskey.
Blue Ribbon School
Bourbon, Lavendar Mead, Lemon Juice, Mint, Blueberries. Garnish: Blueberries & Mint. Mix this bountiful harvest of fruits and herbs with our Helderberg Bourbon and some Bull-and-Bee Mead. This twist on a blueberry bourbon smash celebrates New Scotland’s sole incorporated village and its unparalleled school district!
Sommertime
Wheat Whiskey, Lemonade, Lemon-and-Strawberry Puree. Garnish: Watermelon & Basil. Leveraging the best of Upstate New York’s seasonal extremes, this highball cocktail adds our Helderberg Winter Wheat Whiskey to a refreshing glass of lemonade, as invigorated by an ounce of strawberry puree. Ergo: sweet and sour, just like its namesake inspiration.
Sheriff of Lark Street
Maple Bourbon, Vodka, Espresso. Garnish: Whipped Topping & Dark Chocolate. On a street plagued by chaos and crime, one man strode courageously forth from the shadows to drive out the darkness with the shimmer of his five-point badge. Evil ne’er sleeps, and so neither doth the Sheriff—nor will you, after imbibing our steaming black-as-night homemade espresso infused with 36 Locks Maple Bourbon and Helderberg Vodka, then topped with dark chocolate shavings o’er a criminally deviant bed of whipped cream.

Gin
Scofflaw
Gin, Grapefruit Juice, Blackberry Soda, Honey Syrup. Garnish: Grapefruit Twist & Jalapeño. Coined during Prohibition, this compound of the words “scoff” and “law” once solely denoted a person who illegally consumed alcohol, though its meaning now extends to one who flouts any law. How better to describe a New Scot? Yet while a Jeep parks wherever its oversized tires will fit, there’s one rule-of-the-road to which New Scots solemnly adhere: WE NEVER DRINK AND DRIVE… especially not after drinking this libidinous reminder that life’s tangiest specimens compel you to pucker your lips. (Wink, smooch, repeat.)
Bloodied Legs
Gin, Dry Vermouth, Grenadine. Garnish: Orange Twist. Jack “Legs” Diamond was gunned down on Dove Street in December 1931. The Prohibition Era bootlegger whom some called “Gentleman Jack” and others called “clay pigeon of the underworld” was shot eleven times over the course of his colorful gangland career. We walk in his shoes, but ain’t following in his footsteps. Our signature “Bloodied Legs” cocktail combines Legs’s namesake gin with New York vermouth and a dripping red syrup reminiscent of that which covered the bed Legs made for himself.
Erie-Cum-Hudson
Gin, Lime Seltzer, Syrup, Mint Bitters. Garnish: Cucumber Ribbon & Mint. Our friends at the Schenectady Distilling Company supply the 36 Locks Tow Rope Gin which makes this highball cocktail kick harder than a canal boat mule. It’s cut with lime seltzer and enhanced with simple syrup and bitters. Be sure to eat the refreshing cucumber slice, too — you’ve got a long journey ahead.
Adirondack Tale
Gin, Lime, Cherries, Vanilla. Garnish: Maraschino Cherries. Served as cold as an Adirondack winter, this drink mixes our Jack Diamond’s ProhibiGin with shaved ice, lime, and cherries. “Come with me to the North Country where the devil and the cold winds wail, where the drink is strong and the nights are long and I’ll tell an Adirondack tale.” — Christopher Shaw, “Mad Fiddler of the North Country”
Rail Trail
Gin, Soda, Lemon Juice, Mint. Garnish: Mint & Lemon. If the intimacy of our Tasting Room leaves you feeling claustrophobic, take a westward stroll from Albany’s Pearl Street to Grove Street in Voorheesville along what was once the old Delaware & Hudson Railroad. This refreshing on-the-go cocktail composed of gin, lemon juice, and soda celebrates a storied local history which emerged from the intersection of two railroads. In the immortal words of village historian Dennis Sullivan: “The more things changed, the more they passed away. But there was a railroad town here once, and its name was Voorheesville.”
Vodka
“New Scottish” Canal Mule
Vodka, Ginger Beer, Lime Juice. Garnish: Lime & Mint. It’s the same lime juice and ginger beer you’d expect in a Mule. But the Helderberg Vodka makes it New Scottish, while the nearby footprint of “Clinton’s ditch” is what recalls the Canal.
Orgy on the Plaza
Vodka, Peach Puree, Orange Juice, Cranberry Juice, Peach Bitters. Garnish: Rimmed with Cranberry Sugar & Blood Orange. Sex on the plaza is just as inappropriate as ‘twould be on the beach, and yet it’s the better option (there’s a lot less sand). So, too, is our interpretation of this beloved cocktail the better option, for it’s mixed with our crisp-and-refreshing Helderberg Vodka and a delicious raspberry liqueur produced here in New York State. Peach, orange, cranberry, raspberry… with a lineup like that, of course we call it an “orgy.” See ya at the fireworks!
Orange Beverwyk
Vodka, Orange Juice. Garnish: Salt & Orange Wheel. Packing so much more than your basic screwdriver, this concoction combines Helderberg Vodka with a heaping salt-rimmed glass of orange juice, crushed ice, and a dehydrated orange wheel. As you sip, contemplate the local history: for the City of Albany emerged from a village once composed of Fort Orange and its surrounding territory. That village’s name was “Beverwyck,” meaning “Beaver District,” thereby rendering the nomenclature as apropos today as it was way back when. Yes; I went there.
Lajoyless*
Vodka, Vermouth, Olive Juice. Garnish: Blue Cheese Olives. It’s a vodka martini as dirty as Albany politics, complete with needless paperwork to submit before you’re served the drink that’ll be spilled everywhere when our barkeep slaps your wrist like an avaricious city bureaucrat thirsty not for alcohol, but for power. Don’t forget to grease, er, tip your bartender! *We’re just kidding, Rick! We love you; please don’t shut us down….
The Nondescript
Albanite
Rum, Cider, Soda. Garnish: Cinnamon Stick & Orange Twist. On July 10, 1754, just three weeks after the Albany Congress was called to order, Benjamin Franklin’s “Albany Plan of Union” to create a unified government was adopted by representatives from the Thirteen Colonies. Though ultimately rejected, the Plan was nonetheless a forerunner to the U.S. Constitution. It’s from this monumental legacy that Albanites draw inspiration for their future, and this honorary cocktail marries two of the city’s staples: Quakenbush Amber Rum and Nine Pin Cider.
The Lady’s Limoncello
Vodka, Lemon. Garnish: A beckoning kiss… The hips on our limoncello sway when she walks. This curvaceous liqueur is a callipygian flirt, a steatopygic spirit, and an unrelenting seductress. But is it the alcohol or her siren song that makes this liqueur so irresistible? Such is a question for another time. Go home, you insatiable cad.
New Scottish Cream Coffee
Irish Cream, Coffee. The New Scottish Cream Coffee is actually just an Irish Cream Coffee, but that’s not how branding works.
Tulip Fiesta
Tequila, Limoncello, Pineapple Juice. Garnish: Spiced Watermelon Wedge & Basil. During the Corning administration in 1948, the City of Albany adopted the Dutch city of Nijmegen—recently ravaged by World Ward II—as its sister city. In gratitude, Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands sent 2,000 tulip bulbs to Albany, precipitating the first tulip festival on Mother’s Day weekend in 1949. Take time to honor Albany’s rich Dutch heritage as you stroll past 100,000 tulips in Washington Park each May, then stop by the Tasting Room for a cocktail whose spirit base comes from an entirely different corner of the world. Curamia Tequila is the brainchild of a fellow Albanite; it’s what gives our “Tulip Fiesta” a taste that straddles worlds. And yet this cocktail’s most quintessential ingredient is the rosemary garnish, which symbolizes our fealty to Cap City’s own reigning Queen.
District Stack
Vodka, Rum, Gin, Tequila, Triple Sec, Cola. Garnish: Lemon Twist. Around these parts, what might otherwise be called a Long Island Iced Tea is known as the “District Stack”—thanks to its union of Capital District distilling outfits. Made with Helderberg Vodka by New Scotland Spirits, Quakenbush Rum by the Albany Distilling Company, 36 Locks Tow Rope Gin by the Schenectady Distilling Company, and One with Life Tequila, the Stack is a lot like the cocktail you’d encounter in Nassau and Suffolk Counties… in that it doesn’t contain any iced tea.
